Elco describes itself as the original electric boat company, having pioneered electric propulsion more than 130 years ago and supplied 55 electric launches to the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Today it builds electric inboards from 6 to 200 hp and outboards from 5 to 50 hp, plus batteries and chargers, and names its motors by the petrol horsepower they replace rather than by kilowatts.
