Sunreef Yachts

Sunreef Yachts is a catamaran builder founded in Gdansk in 2002 by Francis Lapp, who set the shipyard up in a city with a long naval construction history. Its first boat, the Sunreef 74 CHE launched in 2003, was presented as the first oceangoing luxury catamaran with a flybridge. The current range covers sailing catamarans from the Sunreef 50 to the Sunreef 100, power catamarans from 44 to 88 feet, and custom builds up to 65 metres. The part that belongs in an electric-boat catalog is the Eco line, where electric propulsion and onboard renewable generation are offered across both the sailing and power ranges. The distinctive engineering there is the solar system. Rather than bolting panels to a hardtop, Sunreef laminates photovoltaic cells into the composite structure itself, and produces that composite-integrated system in-house at the Gdansk yard. Integrating cells into hull sides, superstructure and bimini surfaces gives a far larger collecting area than a roof array on a boat of the same length, which is what turns solar into a real contributor rather than a trickle charger at this displacement. Sunreef is one of the larger yards working in this space, and its scale means the Eco specification is an option across an existing range instead of a separate model line, so a buyer chooses the propulsion without giving up the hull they wanted.
