Some partnerships begin with a contract. Others begin years earlier, by recognising the same change before it becomes obvious.
Volta’s relationship with X Shore belongs to the second category.
We first met the X Shore team at boot Düsseldorf in 2019, when electric leisure boating was still at a very early stage and the Swedish company was beginning to introduce its vision to the international marine industry.
X Shore immediately stood out.
Its Scandinavian design, electric propulsion, connected technology and unusually bold approach to branding felt very different from almost anything else in boating at the time. The media would soon draw comparisons with Tesla, but what interested us was something deeper: X Shore was not simply trying to replace a combustion engine with an electric motor.
It was rethinking what a modern boat could be.
That first meeting marked the beginning of a relationship that would take us from Düsseldorf to Cannes and Barcelona, from boat shows and sea trials to interviews and editorial projects.
More than seven years later, our paths come together again, with X Shore joining Volta as a partner and bringing its current electric boat range to our international sustainable boating platform.
For us, it feels less like discovering a new brand and more like continuing a story that started near the beginning of the modern electric boating movement.

Meeting X Shore in the early days
When we met X Shore at boot Düsseldorf in 2019, the electric boating landscape looked very different from today.
There were far fewer production electric boats, battery technology was less familiar to the general boating public and questions around range, charging and performance dominated almost every conversation.
Against that backdrop, X Shore was remarkably confident.
The company was presenting electric propulsion not as a compromise, but as the foundation for a new type of boating experience: quiet, connected, technologically advanced and visually distinctive.

Later that year, we met the company again at the Cannes Yachting Festival, as X Shore continued introducing its concept to the European market.
What struck us in those early encounters was not only the technology. There was a very clear identity behind the company.
The boat looked different. The materials felt different. The brand communicated differently.
X Shore was willing to be disruptive at a moment when electric boating itself was still a disruptive idea.

Barcelona 2019: bringing X Shore to the water
Our relationship moved another step forward at the Barcelona International Boat Show in October 2019.
At the time, Volta was much closer to the physical side of introducing electric boating to the market. We represented and showcased innovative electric boats, brought them to events and gave people the opportunity to experience this emerging technology firsthand.
For Barcelona, we brought together a selection of electric marine products that included X Shore, Naviwatt and Narke, creating one of the show’s dedicated spaces for discovering electric mobility on the water.
X Shore was a central part of that presence.
But our involvement went far beyond displaying the boat on the dock.
We organised sea trials, allowing visitors and guests to experience the X Shore underway. Today, electric propulsion is far better understood, but in 2019 many boaters had never experienced the instant torque, low vibration and near-silent operation of an electric boat.
Putting someone behind the helm could change their perception in a matter of minutes.
Among those who came to experience the X Shore was Spanish professional basketball player Pablo Aguilar, while institutional representatives and other prominent visitors also came aboard to discover the boat and learn more about its technology.

The X Shore attracted attention well beyond the traditional marine audience too.
Its distinctive Scandinavian design made it an interesting object not only from a technological perspective, but also from a lifestyle and cultural one.
While the boat was in Barcelona, it became the setting for a fashion editorial photographed by Ion Jairo. The resulting story, For You I Would Sail the Seas, was later published by Kluid Magazine, with both Volta and the X Shore Eelex 8000 credited in the production.

For us, it was an early demonstration of something particularly interesting about X Shore: an electric boat could become relevant outside the usual marine conversation.
It could be technology, design and lifestyle at the same time.
Back to Düsseldorf
Our paths crossed again at boot Düsseldorf in 2020.
This time, we sat down with X Shore founder Konrad Bergström to talk about the company, its technology and his vision for the future of boating.
X Shore was still relatively young, but its ambition was unmistakable.
Electric propulsion was only one part of the story. The company was thinking about materials, digital interfaces, modularity, user experience and the emotional difference that silence could bring to time spent on the water.
Looking back at those conversations today is particularly interesting because many of the ideas that were considered pioneering then have become central topics across the electric marine sector.
Growing alongside electric boating
A lot has changed since those first meetings.
And that is true not only for X Shore, but for Volta too.
When we first worked together, Volta was closer to being a specialist electric boating dealer and promoter. Much of our work involved physically bringing boats to customers: exhibiting them, explaining the technology, organising demonstrations and giving people their first electric boating experience.
The challenge at the time was often simply awareness.
Electric boating needed to be seen, tested and understood.
As the market evolved, so did our role.
Today, Volta is an international platform for sustainable boating, connecting a global audience with electric, hybrid and other lower-impact marine solutions.
Instead of representing a limited selection of boats directly, we now help people discover and understand sustainable boating through our marketplace, brand pages, editorial content, comparisons and direct connections with manufacturers.
Our mission has remained remarkably similar.
The scale and the tools have changed.
X Shore has followed its own transformation over the same period.
When we first encountered the company, it was one of a small group of ambitious newcomers challenging traditional recreational boating.
Over the following years, its product range expanded, its technology matured and the company became one of the most recognisable names associated with premium electric boating.
In many ways, the development of X Shore and Volta mirrors the development of the industry itself.
In 2019, much of the conversation was about proving that electric boats could work.
Today, the conversation is increasingly about which electric boat is right for a particular user, how it compares with alternatives and where electric propulsion genuinely provides a better boating experience.
That is an important shift.

Why X Shore stood out. And still does.
There were several reasons X Shore made such a strong impression on us from the beginning.
One was design.
Rather than making an electric boat look as conventional as possible, X Shore developed a recognisable Scandinavian identity: minimalist, functional and confident.
Another was technology.
Electric propulsion was integrated into a broader digital boating experience, with large onboard interfaces, connected systems and software becoming part of the product itself.
Then there was the approach to materials and modularity, areas in which the company was willing to experiment rather than simply follow established marine conventions.
But perhaps the most important characteristic was attitude.
X Shore understood early that sustainability alone would not convince people to change the way they boat.
Electric boats needed to be products people genuinely wanted.
They needed to look good, perform well, feel modern and offer something that combustion boats could not.
Silence became one of those qualities.
The company’s Power of Silence philosophy captured one of the most fundamental differences of electric boating: when engine noise and vibration disappear, the entire experience of being on the water changes.
That combination of technology, design and willingness to challenge convention remains one of the main reasons we consider X Shore a relevant partner for Volta today.
From pioneer to reference brand
Being an early mover in a new industry is rarely a straight journey.
Electric boating is particularly demanding. Developing new propulsion systems, battery platforms, manufacturing processes and international sales and service networks requires considerable technical and financial commitment.
X Shore has gone through different chapters during that journey.
What remains significant is that, years after those first boats attracted attention in Düsseldorf, Cannes and Barcelona, X Shore continues to be one of the reference names in electric recreational boating.
That matters.
Many companies have entered the electric marine sector since the late 2010s. Creating an exciting concept or prototype is one challenge. Developing production boats, accumulating real-world experience and continuing to evolve the technology over several years is another.
The X Shore of today is naturally different from the young company we met in 2019.
But many of the qualities that caught our attention then are still recognisable: ambition, innovation, distinctive design and the willingness to question what a boat should be.
Three X Shore models, now on Volta
Today, the renewed relationship between X Shore and Volta takes a very different form.
Buyers can now discover X Shore’s current boat range directly on Volta, explore specifications and configurations and connect with the brand through our platform.
X Shore 1

The X Shore 1 brings the company’s design and electric technology into a compact day-boat format.
Available in Open, Bowrider and Top configurations, it is designed around social day boating, versatility and accessible electric performance.
It retains the minimalist aesthetic and technological character associated with X Shore while addressing a broader segment of recreational users.
Eelex 8000
The Eelex 8000 remains the model most closely associated with the X Shore name, and has a particular significance for us because it connects directly with the boats we first experienced during the early years of our relationship with the brand.
Its eight-metre platform combines electric propulsion with an open, highly modular deck designed to adapt to different activities.
The Eelex helped establish X Shore’s visual identity internationally and demonstrated that an electric boat could be desirable for reasons extending far beyond its emissions profile.
Performance, silence, flexible use of space and distinctive Scandinavian design were all part of the proposition.
X Shore PRO
The X Shore PRO takes the platform into professional and commercial applications.
Its adaptable working deck allows the boat to be configured for uses including passenger transport, tourism, diving, research and other professional operations.
For these applications, electrification is not simply an environmental argument.
Low noise, minimal vibration, instant torque and the absence of local exhaust emissions can provide genuine operational advantages.
The PRO also illustrates just how much the electric marine market has expanded since our first encounters with X Shore.
The question is no longer simply whether electric propulsion can work for a leisure day boat.
It is increasingly being applied across a much wider range of boating activities.
Different companies, the same direction
Looking back at our first encounters with X Shore inevitably means looking at how much Volta has changed too.
In 2019, we were standing physically beside electric boats, bringing people aboard and explaining a technology many were discovering for the first time.
Today, someone discovering an X Shore through Volta might be thousands of kilometres away.
The medium has changed.
The objective has not.
We still want to make more sustainable boating easier to discover, understand and adopt.
X Shore’s journey has followed a similar direction.
The company that once arrived at international boat shows as one of the sector’s boldest newcomers now brings years of product development, customer experience and technological evolution.
Volta has moved from physically introducing pioneering electric boats to building an international platform connecting sustainable marine brands with buyers around the world.
X Shore has moved from challenging the conventions of boating to becoming one of the brands most closely associated with the electric segment.
And electric boating itself has moved from being a niche conversation about what might one day be possible to an increasingly mature market of real boats, real users and real use cases.
Continuing a journey that started early
That is what makes this new chapter particularly meaningful for us.
It is not simply about adding three more boats to the Volta marketplace.
It is about welcoming onto today’s Volta platform a company that caught our attention when both X Shore and electric boating looked very different.
We met the team in Düsseldorf.
We followed them to Cannes.
We brought X Shore to Barcelona.
We exhibited the boat, organised sea trials and introduced it to new audiences.
We saw it attract athletes, institutions, media and even the fashion world.
We interviewed its founder while the company was still establishing itself internationally.
And we have watched both X Shore and electric boating evolve ever since.
Today, our paths come together again from a very different starting point.
Volta is now an international platform dedicated to sustainable boating. X Shore is an established electric boat manufacturer serving both recreational and professional users.
Much has changed since that photograph at boot Düsseldorf in 2019.
But the qualities that made X Shore stand out to us then remain remarkably familiar today: bold design, technological ambition, innovation and the willingness to rethink what boating can be.
Those are exactly the kinds of companies we want to bring closer to the Volta community.
Welcome back, X Shore.
