Seller Terms

Last updated: July 19, 2026 (draft)

1. Scope and acceptance

These Seller Terms govern your use of the Volta marketplace as a seller, dealer, brand, or service provider (together, a "Seller"). They apply in addition to our Privacy Policy and Data Protection notice. By listing on Volta or accepting leads through the platform, you agree to these terms. These terms are available here at any time, including before you start selling on Volta.

2. Eligibility and verification

Sellers must be legally able to sell the boats, products, components, or services they list, in the markets where they offer them. Volta may verify a Seller's identity, business registration, and brand authorisation before granting a verified or official-dealer status, and may withdraw that status if the underlying facts change.

3. Listing accuracy and content standards

  • Listings must be accurate, current, and not misleading as to price, specification, condition, or availability.
  • You must hold the rights to any text, images, and media you upload, and you grant Volta a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, and resize that content for the purpose of operating and marketing the marketplace. You retain ownership of your content; this licence does not transfer your intellectual property.
  • You are responsible for keeping inventory status truthful and for removing or marking items that are no longer available.

4. Ranking

The main parameters determining how listings are ordered, in decreasing order of importance:

  • Default catalogue order: featured status first (an editorial selection made by Volta based on catalogue quality and buyer relevance), then recency (newest listings first).
  • Search results: relevance of the buyer's query to the listing's name, brand, and description, computed by a standard full-text ranking algorithm (BM25).
  • Buyer-chosen sorting: when a buyer selects a sort order (price, range, battery, length, newest, or popularity), that choice replaces the default order entirely.

Remuneration does not influence ranking: neither subscription tier nor any other payment affects a listing's position, and featured status cannot be bought. If paid placement is introduced in the future, its effect on ranking will be described here and affected listings will be labelled as sponsored. A consumer-facing description is published at How we rank listings.

5. Differentiated treatment

Volta does not sell boats, products, or services of its own on the marketplace, and does not give preferential treatment in ranking, data access, or fees to any Seller it controls or is controlled by. All Sellers are subject to the same editorial criteria for featured status and verification.

6. Lead handling and buyer data

When a buyer submits an enquiry, Volta routes the buyer's contact details and message to the relevant Seller so the Seller can respond. As a condition of receiving leads, you agree that:

  • You will use buyer personal data only to respond to and fulfil the specific enquiry, and you act as an independent controller of that data under applicable data protection law.
  • You will respond to leads in a timely manner. Volta may send reminders and, for unanswered leads, may re-route or escalate the enquiry to keep the buyer experience intact.
  • You will not add buyers to marketing lists without a lawful basis, and you will honour any buyer request to access, correct, or erase their data.
  • You will not solicit buyers to transact off-platform in order to avoid platform fees or tracking, where fees apply.

7. Data access

Through the seller dashboard you have access to: the full content of your own listings; each lead addressed to you (buyer name, contact details, and message); and aggregated performance analytics for your listings (views, search appearances, and lead counts). Volta retains enquiry records and platform analytics after a lead is routed, as described in the Privacy Policy, including aggregated statistics that Volta uses to operate and improve the marketplace. Volta does not provide your leads or listing analytics to other Sellers.

8. Fees and commercial terms

Listing on Volta is currently free for verified Sellers. Volta may introduce optional paid features (for example, featured placement) or qualified-lead fees in future. Any such charges will be introduced as a change to these terms under section 12, meaning you will receive at least 15 days' advance notice and can stop using the marketplace before they take effect.

9. Additional marketing channels

Volta may market and display your listings beyond voltayachts.com in order to reach buyers: in search engines, on Volta's social media accounts, in the Volta newsletter, and in editorial content such as buying guides and the magazine. The content licence in section 3 covers this use.

10. Content moderation

Volta moderates marketplace content to keep listings lawful, accurate, and safe for buyers. In practice this means: editorial review of listings by the Volta team, automated protection of public forms against bots and spam, and a channel for anyone to report suspected illegal content (described on the How we rank listings page). Where content breaches these terms or the law, Volta may ask you to correct it, edit obvious factual errors, restrict its visibility, or unpublish it. When Volta removes or restricts your content, suspends your account, or withdraws verified status, you will receive a statement of the reasons, except where a legal obligation prevents it. Volta informs the competent authorities if content gives rise to a suspicion of a criminal offence threatening a person's life or safety.

11. Prohibited conduct

  • Posting false, deceptive, or infringing content.
  • Listing items you are not authorised or legally permitted to sell.
  • Misusing buyer data, including unsolicited marketing or onward sale of contact details.
  • Attempting to manipulate search ranking, reviews, or verification signals.

12. Role of Volta and disclaimers

Volta operates a marketplace that connects buyers and Sellers. Volta is not a party to the sale contract between a buyer and a Seller and does not warrant the boats, products, or services listed. To the extent permitted by law, the platform is provided on an "as is" basis, and Volta's liability for indirect or consequential loss is excluded. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the marketplace at any time. Volta may restrict, suspend, or remove individual listings, or suspend or terminate a Seller's access to the marketplace, on these grounds: breach of these terms (including the content standards and prohibited-conduct sections), listings that risk harming buyers or are reasonably suspected to be illegal, loss of the legal ability or authorisation to sell the items listed, or where Volta is required to act by law or by a competent authority.

  • If Volta restricts or suspends a listing or your account, you will receive a statement of reasons before or at the time the restriction takes effect.
  • If Volta terminates your access entirely, you will receive the reasons at least 30 days before termination takes effect, except where Volta is subject to a legal or regulatory obligation to terminate immediately, where you have repeatedly infringed these terms, or where an imperative reason such as buyer safety or fraud requires immediate action.
  • In all cases you can contest the decision by replying to the notice; Volta will review a substantiated objection and reinstate content or access where the objection is justified.

14. Changes to these terms

Volta may update these terms. Proposed changes will be sent to the email address associated with your seller account at least 15 days before they take effect, or longer where the change requires you to make technical or commercial adaptations. You may terminate your use of the marketplace free of charge before the notice period expires. Continued use of the marketplace after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the updated terms; you may also waive the notice period by express written confirmation. Changes made without the required notice are without effect, except where the change is required by law or addresses an unforeseen and imminent danger to buyers or the platform.

15. Governing law and disputes

Placeholder, to be confirmed before these terms go live: these terms will be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Volta is established, and disputes will be subject to the courts of that jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer or local protections that apply to you.

16. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent to contact@voltayachts.com.
